The area offers some of the best hiking and mountain biking in the UK
(We are on what Mountain Bike Rider Magazine describes as one of the top
8 routes in the country –the Bowderdale Killer Loop!). Wainwright’s
famous Coast to Coast long distance path is opposite, and nearby is the
Dales Way, Pennine Way, Westmorland Way and the Pennine Cycleway. The
new Pennine Bridleway from the Peak District to Scotland will also be at
hand.
The area boasts something for everyone – a walk out of the front door
provides ancient history at ‘Gamelands’ Stone Circle and one of the
largest collections of Neolithic settlements in Northern England, bird
watching on Sunbiggin Tarn and several national nature reserves. Orton
village has a renowned hand made chocolate “factory”, a scarecrow
festival and one of the best farmers markets in the UK. Put this
together with any number of outdoor options and you will never do the
same thing twice!
